Environmental Programs Involvement Committee (E.P.I.C.)
About EPIC
Mission Statement: To promote the importance of environmental programs while providing a social network that raises awareness and encourages involvement in dealing with environmental concerns.
The Environmental Programs Involvement Committee (EPIC) is based out of the department of Environmental Programs in the College of Geosciences. This organization was founded in February 2009 by several students from that department. Despite this, we are open to all majors and are mainly a volunteer-based committee. We participate in many environmentally friendly events such as Replant, Beach Clean Ups, and Earth Day. We also have a social aspect to our committee that includes events such as fundraising, dinners, movie nights, and other various social events!
EPIC also raises $250 a year to donate to an endangered species of the members' choice. It then becomes the club mascot for the year! EPIC donates this money to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). This year our WWF animal is the Vaquita!
Each semester, EPIC sponsors at least one service trip and one social trip. During the Fall semester, we do local community clean-ups and a social hiking trip, while in the Spring, we'll do a Beach Clean-Up and camping trip. These trips are a lot of fun, rewarding, and are usually the focal points of the semester. To be eligible, one simply has to be a member (by turning in their forms and paying their dues).
There are no deadlines for membership, but we do have one for joining a committee. Don't worry if you miss that one though, we open the committees back up to membership every semester.
